Sweetheart of a Sale!

Snow is falling and winter is really here.  Along with the inconvenience remember to notice the beauty that goes along with it.  Driving to the store this morning was like being part of a picture post card.  My feeling has always been that you have to endure the winter hues to truly appreciate theglorious colors of those first signs of spring.

Because of the weather I've had to cancel some classes and rearrange the schedule a bit.  Please make sure that you check the updated schedule.  It's possible that if dates had not worked before that they may now.

Two events have been moved.  The Pajama Party that was cancelled due to snow will now take place on the 19th of February.  Finally Friday will take place on the 26th.  The theme is "Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler", or Let the good times roll.  Many of you know that I lived in New Orleans for years and love their culture.

Also, remember that the weekend of the 27th and 28th is the Quilts of Valor Mini Retreat.  Come show your support for the men and  women that protect our country.

Saturday Morning Minis will be meeting this Saturday, the 13th from 9:00 - 11:00.  We love to see new faces attend.  Call for details

Winter Class Schedule

This is always a busy time of year as we get back in the swing of things after the holidays.  Don't let the Winter Blues set in.  Classes will be starting in just a few days.  The class schedule is at the store and you can download from the website.

The first week of February will see quite a few classes start.  Among them will be Beginners, a quilted jacket, a cute heart quilt, a jelly roll project and a Pajama Party.  Call or watch for details.

So many new fabrics have arrived.  There are Batiks, several collections that will remind us of warmer days, animal prints for children, and some wonderful flannel. Come check them out.

Events, Classes, and Fun

Remember that you can sign-up for classes and events online or phone, as well as coming into the store.  If you are registering at the last minute please call to make sure that there is still space, or that it hasn't been cancelled or rescheduled.  I look forward to your participation in the classes.  If there is a class you wish to take and the times don't work for you, I can schedule classes for a group of friends, but I do need to have at least four people.

There are also new kits that will be coming to the online store, so check them out.

Just a reminder that this is a good time of year to have your machines serviced after finishing your holiday projects.  They go to the mechanic on Tuesdays.

As we deal with the first real snowfall of the season I would like to remind everyone of my snow and inclement weather policy.  If the schools in Newtown and/or Stratford are delayed or cancelled, then so am I. On weekends you should call first to make sure that I have arrived at the store or haven't decided to close earlier than usual.  If you are signed up for a class you will receive a call if it will be cancelled.

Countdown to Christmas!

Do you feel that you just don't have enough time to get everything done in the next two weeks?  You are not alone, because there are many of us who feel the same way.  Hopefully you can find some of the items on your list at The Quilt Shop by Lois.  There are stocking stuffers ready for all of your favorite quilters, whether they are friends, family, or co-workers. And there is still time to make some wonderful gifts.  Come see the ideas at the store or join us this weekend to make a Cuddle Scarf or Christmas Tree Table Runner.

Events, Classes, and Fun

First I would like to remind everyone that the Finally Friday Fun Night is tonight, December 11.  Don't forget to call and let me know that you are coming, so that I can make sure that there are enough goodies for everyone. You can arrive anytime during the afternoon, and dinner will be served around 6:45.

The weekend is packed with classes that can all enhance your holiday.  Saturday will start with the Saturday Morning Mini class, followed by classes for two different types of scarves using the Cuddle fabrics. These are wonderful projects for gift giving, and you will want to make an extra one for yourself.  Then on Sunday afternoon there is a class to make a cute Christmas Tree table runner. Call and save your spot in any of these workshops or sign up online.

It has been such an exciting year for me and I would like to thank my many quilting friends.  From now thru Christmas Eve, when you purchase a $50.00 gift certificate I will give a second for $10.00 towards a class.  A $75.00 certificate will get one for $15.00 towards a class, and a certificate for $100.00 will get one worth $20.00 on a class.

And don't forget to remind Santa that you have been good this year and would like something from Bernina. Most items I can get in just a few days, if they are not in stock.

Please note that the store will be open 12:00 - 5:00 pm on Sunday, December 13.  I will also be open on Monday December 21 from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm.  On Christmas Eve The Quilt Shop by Lois will close at 3:00 pm.

New fabrics, workshops and some really BIG news!

Sometimes I find it difficult to believe how the days roll by.  This week will be four months since I opened my doors for business.  I would like to thank everyone for making these past months such a wonderful experience for me and hope that all of you have enjoyed yourselves when you have come into the shop. There are many things planned for the next weeks and I hope that everyone will find something of interest.

I have just returned from a quilting retreat with a group of fun loving and talented quilters.  The weather was perfect and the surroundings were full of gorgeous color. We worked on a quilt that contained many of those same colors. I've had to order more fabric but additional kits for the retreat quilt will be available in a week or so.  Make sure that you let me know if you want me to save one for you.

During the last few days many new fabrics have arrived.  The colors are beautiful and I cannot wait to work with them.  Ideas are coming almost too fast to process.  If only I didn't need to sleep at night.  Come see them for yourself.

The first Finally Friday Fun Night was a great success.  I think that I surprised some of you with the fact that I can actually cook.  I am busy planning future menus. The next two are planned and the dates are on the store calendar.  In November it will take place on the 13th and in December on the 11th.  It starts as you arrive sometime during the late afternoon and lasts till whenever, with dinner being served between 6:30 and 7:00 pm.  Come for an evening of fun and sewing with your quilting buddies.

The holiday workshops have been posted on the web site.  I geared them towards items that would be nice holiday gifts or something that you might take to a favorite host or hostess.  They have been scheduled for weekends, but additional times can be added if you and a group of friends want to do them during the week.

I don't want to cause stress but the holidays are coming quickly so I have several things to make it easier.  Starting this week you can fill out your wish list.  This will make it possible to give those shopping for you a little guidance to find something that you would like.  Also, my guys (husband, and sons) will be hosting a men's night, on Thursday, December 3, so that the men in your lives can come get their holiday shopping done, plus have some fun for themselves while they shop.  Of course, manly refreshments will be served and there will be prizes that they can give as gifts or may want to keep for themselves.

Now for my really BIG news!

I have signed a contract to become a Bernina Authorized Retailer.  My machines should be here by next week.  So if you are looking for a new machine or accessories for one that you already own, come check out these new machines.  Santa might want to check them out too (Don't forget to add one to your wish list).  They will be in the classroom so that when you take a class you can try one out.  I will also be offering machine servicing, starting now.

So, in closing I would like to remind you that you will find wonderfully colorful fabrics, and ideas, along with ways to make your holiday easier at The Quilt Shop by Lois.

The retreat to New Hampshire is next week.  The store will be open for normal hours for your shoppingconvenience.

Don't forget to check the website.  Classes that were full, now have additional dates scheduled. New classes are also in the process of being arranged and will be announced shortly

Fun happenings at the store

It seems impossible that it is October already.  So many things are happening at the store.  Classes are in full swing.  Don't forget the annual Pudgy Pumpkin workshops, and the Saturday Morning Minis.  There is still space in both.  Also new dates have been chosen to repeat several classes that were filled. Make sure that you continue to watch the website for these and other additions.  I know that many of you are waiting for the holiday workshops. These will be quick and easy projects to make as gifts (or even for ourselves!).

Work is also progressing on a Block of the Month Quilt that will be starting after the first of the year.  This is the first of several that will be gracing the store in 2016.  They are so beautiful that I can't wait  to work on them and for you to see them.

New fun for Quilters

Do you anxiously wait for friday evening, after working all week at either an outside job or at home, or at both?  Do you frequently wish that you could do something just for yourself, or meet and sew with fellow quilting enthusiasts?  Well this is your opportunity.  On Friday October 16, at 6:00 pm I will host the first Finally Friday Quilting Night. Dinner and Beverages will be served as we work on some of those projects that we need to get finished, whether it seems to have hung around forever or is one that needs to get done for something or someone special. This will be a good time to finish things up so that they can be removed from the to do list and allow you the freedom to start something new.  It is also a great time to catch up with all of your quilting friends, and to see what they have been up to.  We will start with show and tell.  There will be Fun and Surprises throughout the evening.  Call to reserve your spot at dinner today.

New Fabrics and Upcoming Events!

Big News!  The parking lot is finished!

July was an incredible month for me.  I want to thank all of you who visited my new store.  It was wonderful to see so many old friends and to make new ones.

I would like to congratulate Terry Alfson on winning the quilt kit during the Grand Opening.  Also Barbara Dorry won the prize for being the first to bring in a completed Row by Row quilt.  These two ladies added to the excitement during July.

August is always such a busy month for everyone, with vacations and getting ready for the fall.  I have gotten deliveries of beautiful new fabrics and more are arriving all the time.  There are also new books and patterns that have arrived.   I hope that you will find time to come in and see them.

Cuddle Fabrics Workshop

Sign-ups have begun for the workshop about Cuddle fabrics.  Mary Gay will share her knowledge with tips, tricks, and techniques to work with this soft and cozy fabric.  The workshop will take place on September 24th, at either 10:00 or 6:30.  Don't miss your chance to learn from an expert.

I am also busy working on the class schedule for the fall and will post it on the web site early next week. New classes will be added throughout the fall.  I hope that you will take advantage of classes and come have a good time.

I also want to let everyone know that I will be closed on Tuesday, August 18th to attend a summer event.  I am sorry for any inconvenience that this will cause you.  The shop will reopen Wednesday, August 19th at 12:00.
