Last month, The Quilt Shop by Lois had its first retreat, “Fight the Winter Blues” in Meredith, New Hampshire, and it was better than I had ever hoped it could be. Despite some nervous excitement on my part, everything came together nicely. I spent the weekend with eight amazingly creative and more importantly wonderful ladies.
Most of the quilters came up a day early and worked on their own UFO projects they brought with them. On Friday evening the fun started with our first retreat project, a carrying case for the essential tools every quilter must have when they travel. First thing Saturday we took a field trip to Keepsake Quilting in Center Harbor. When we got back from the field trip, we began tackling the retreat project.
With snow starting to fall, it was only appropriate that we fought our "cabin fever" with log cabin blocks using bright, spring florals against a white background. That evening all of us came together and threw a pajama party to stay nice and toasty. The party was complete with games, prizes and a project! Sunday we were scheduled to leave but decided to take advantage of the winter weather and stay an extra day. It isn't bad at all to get snowed in when you get to spend it among friends doing something that you all love; SEWING!
Preparations have already begun for the next quilting adventure in April. I hope to see everyone there for some fun with fabric!
