Last Sunday I closed a wonderful chapter in my life. In fact, it has been one of the best by far. I spent almost twenty years working at The Quilt Shop with Ginny Murphy who became not only my mentor but my closest friend. The Quilt Shop is closed, but not our friendship.
Now I am preparing for the next chapter; The Quilt Shop by Lois. I cannot say enough about the assistance and encouragement that Ginny has given me. She has provided moral support, practical introductions to vendors and customers and my house is filled with store fixtures that I am going to use to get the business up and running. I hope that The Quilt Shop by Lois will be a continuation of the business that Ginny spent so many years and so much of herself building. I plan to continue in that tradition and to add on to what she built. I hope that Ginny will continue to feel a proprietary pride in the new store.
Right now, I am looking for a physical place to the shop. I have started negotiations with a new landlord and will let all of you know how that works out. I have also already placed orders for fabric and notions with the suppliers, and I am looking forward to a spring opening.
In the meantime, I am taking a group of quilters on a retreat a Lake Winnipesauke in New Hampshire over Valentine's Day weekend.
